For the third straight year, top-class rugby will be returning to Shanghai as the Asia¡¯s best teams return to the city for the 2011 Shanghai Sevens. |
The tournament will be held on August 27th and 28th, 2011 and will see the top 12 men¡¯s teams from the likes of Hong Kong, Japan, and Thailand as well as two time defending champs Korea and the host nation China compete in the tournament. Along with the men, this year sees an expanded women¡¯s competition as the top four teams from last year¡¯s Asian Games in Guangzhou, including winners Kazakhstan, along with China, Hong Kong, and Thailand renew their battle for position as the top women¡¯s team in Asia. |
With the Chinese men¡¯s team finishing in second place last year, the team is looking to claim the top spot this year. Zhong Min, Vice Secretary General of the China Rugby Football Association stated ¡°With rugby sevens returning to the Olympic family, it¡¯s obviously important that China performs better in this global sport. ¡±To help improve access, the tournament will move into Yuanshen Stadium, offering the residents of Shanghai convenient access to the event through metro line 6.
